CAN I LEARN ENGLISH WHEN I AM DYSLEXIC or HAVE ANOTHER LEARNING DIFFICULTY ?

Yes, absolutely ! Learners with difficulties are just as intelligent as everybody else, let no-one tell you otherwise…
The regular school-system is based on standards and not always adapted to students with a brain that works differently. What you need is another approach that allows you to handle 2 language systems at the same time, but above all a different way of learning :

What are the main problems that students with learning difficulties have ?

All learning difficulties have their own specific problems. It could be with reading, listening, memorising or other. It is not always easy to understand a different phonological system, because you need to be able to hear the different sounds and sometimes they sound very similar. And this is strongly related to pronunciation.
Thanks to my experience, I know the specific problems, and I adapt my lessons to your needs.

COACHING : what advice do I give to my dyslexic (& other) students ?

I have noticed that my students believe there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Caused by numerous negative experiences, they believe they will never be able to learn English. Helping them regain confidence for me is a logical and necessary part of my work.
Even though all learning difficulties are different, there also is a lot of overlap and similarity. Without exception, all students have 1 or more problems with “executive functions”. Those are functions in you brain that allow you to:

Control your impulses (think before you act)

Keep your emotions under control (feel confident & don’t take things personally)

Be flexible (don’t have problems with unexpected changes and situations)

Active memory (this works as “post-its” in your brain, that help to keep information in your short-term memory)

Self-control (work effectively, and not try to do a dozen things at the same time)

Plan and prioritise (make a good to-do list & choose the best order to do the tasks)

Task initiation (and not procrastinating)

Organisation (don’t lose your materials, forget appointments or homework, etc)
